Positive Behaviour Support

Positive Behaviour Support

Positive Behaviour Support (often known as PBS) is a compassionate, person-centred approach to working with people. Rather than just managing difficulties or focusing on the behaviour itself, PBS looks underneath the surface to understand what a person is trying to communicate, or what their environment might need to improve their life.

We use evidence-based practices to create proactive strategies that build skills, foster independence, and significantly improve everyday well-being. Together, we work to gain an understanding of what is going well and what needs to change in order to enhance a person’s overall quality of life.

Our Approach to Behaviour Support

  • We seek to understand the person: Every individual is unique. We take the time to understand a person’s strengths, challenges, and life experiences to create the right support for them.
  • The person is central to decision-making: We deeply value their voice, your choices, and their rights. They are the experts in their own life.
  • Creating supportive environments: Lasting change happens when we build the skills and capacity of the entire system and environment surrounding a person.
  • We work together: Behaviour support is a team effort. We collaborate closely with individuals, families, supports, and professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes.

What Do We Do?

We offer comprehensive, hands-on support to help you navigate every stage of your NDIS behaviour support journey. Our services include:

  • Behaviour Support Assessments: Detailed insights, including Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs), to understand the “why” behind certain behaviours.
  • Risk Assessment & Interim Planning: Immediate safety and emergency planning for high-risk scenarios to ensure everyone feels secure.
  • PBS Plan Development & Implementation: Designing customized, proactive Positive Behaviour Support Plans tailored to a person’s specific goals.
  • Individual Skill Building: Helping a person develop new skills, independence, and ways to communicate their needs.
  • Network Training: Comprehensive, hands-on, and ongoing training for a person’s families, support workers, schools, and support networks so everyone is on the same page.
  • Collaboration: Working with a person’s wider team, including schools, allied health professionals, and support services.
  • Review & Monitoring: Continuously tracking the plan’s success and making adjustments as the person’s needs evolve.
  • NDIS Reporting: Taking care of the necessary documentation and reports required by the NDIS.

Who Do We Work With?

We partner with NDIS participants who have Positive Behaviour Support funding allocated in their plans, as well as the vital people around them. This includes:

  • Individuals looking for better ways to communicate, connect, and thrive.
  • Families and primary carers seeking guidance, relief, and practical strategies.
  • Support networks, including support workers, accommodation providers, schools, and allied health teams who want to build a safer, more supportive environment.
